Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865 (DUVCW) was founded by and for women who are direct descendants of Union veterans who fought for the preservation of our Nation during the American Civil War. We are the oldest and largest U.S. Civil War women's organization genealogically based on lineal descent. DUVCW was incorporated in Massillon, Ohio in 1885 and endorsed by the Grand Army of the Republic in 1900. Members currently reside in 26 states and the District of Columbia, and meet in local groups called Tents.

DUVCW is a not-for-profit organization, and we work to preserve history and promote patriotism. We do this by helping to preserve Civil War battlefields, historic sites and Union monuments, and by participating in ceremonies on national and local holidays. We have a scholarship program, offer Military Academy Awards, and help to support Gallaudet University. The Daughters also maintain a free public Civil War Museum in Springfield, Illinois.

The Iowa Department, DUVCW, was organized  on September 8, 1915 and has 6 active Tents. Applicants from across Iowa are invited to apply for membership in the Iowa Department. We also welcome members from nearby states without any organized Departments.
